Aladdin Book now available

As already mentioned in the second edition of the Aladdin newsletter the project consortium worked on the publication of a book about the project. The result of this work is now available!

The book titled "At Home in the Destination - The Aladdin Platform", published by the project consortium in March 2007, sets out the results of the project in the area of analysis and conceptual design of a mobile, multilingual system to support travel groups and individual travellers (tourists as well as business travellers) at travel destinations.
Current challenges related to the provision of appropriate and frequently updated information for mobile users at the destination today are examined for the two target groups: employees in tourism such as tour guides and tour organisers, and travellers. This examination is based on an in-depth analysis of different travel destinations participating in the project, each representing a different travel type. The results of this analysis and the use cases derived from it are presented in detail.
The IT solution developed in the project is also discussed from different perspectives and the potential benefits of such a mobile support platform are presented in detail, focussing also on the aspect of providing information to users, tailored by user profiles, and on the aspect of multilingualism that plays an important role in the travel arena.
Finally the opportunities offered by the proposed solution are shown and a vision of a future travel scenario with a system like Aladdin is outlined.

The book is primarily addressed to:

It applies to people responsible for different tasks in destinations who want to learn how the use of such innovative ICT technology can improve their business and what opportunities are provided by the use of such a mobile and multilingual solution in their destination. The book can also be seen as background information to help IT-oriented companies to develop solutions supporting the Aladdin philosophy.
Furthermore, the book illustrates current challenges in travel management, and so can be used to check the services offered by the reader's own company and to develop new services addressing the needs of travellers today and in the future.
The book is published in English, containing approximately 160 pages with a number of graphics and tables.
