One year of Aladdin - a second project review
Another six months of the Aladdin project have passed which means that we have reached the first half of the whole project duration. During the last six months a lot of work has been done and now it is time again to have a look on the achieved results.
Based on the detailed business analysis carried out by the research partners during the first six months
the next step was to work out the reference specification of the Aladdin system (for more information
Within the specification phase new tourism related services for different kinds of travellers that will
be addressed by the Aladdin System were defined. The definition of new services led to requirements for
the Aladdin system in the fields of software, hardware and broadband capabilities which will be used as
direct input for the implementation of the system.
In preparation of the next months of the project the consortium came together to the fourth project management board meeting which took place in Veszprém (Hungary) from the 25th to the 27th of September 2006.
The main topics of this meeting were the upcoming phases of implementation and evaluation. The first day
was completely dedicated to the evaluation process: the work package leader, the "Institute of Public
Services and Tourism" (University of St. Gallen), explained the evaluation structure, presented suitable
research methods and gave an overview of the time plan. Technical and organisational issues for the
usability tests (in house testing) on one side and for the field tests in the trial destinations on the
other side were discussed.
On the second day the implementation of the Aladdin system took the centre stage. After having received
an impression of the graphical user interface of the mobile device for tour guides and its functionality,
further requirements were discussed and next steps concerning the development of the system were planned.
In spite of the tight schedule of the agenda the partners could enjoy a city tour through Veszprém and a trip to the nearby Lake Balaton organised by the hosting partner the "University of Pannonia" and also discover the regional cuisine in typical restaurants of the region.
